OIG Report Recommends Implementation of Permanent HIPAA Audit Program

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently conducted a study to assess the Office of Civil Rights’ (OCR) oversight of compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Surveys of Covered Entities and Business Associates Aimed at Building OCR HIPAA Audit Program

On May 12, 2014, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) published a Notice in the Federal Register indicating that “pre-audit” surveys will be sent to 1,200 randomly selected organizations in connection with the development its permanent HIPAA audit program.
