CMS Releases Clarification Regarding Texting of Patient Orders

On December 28, 2017, the Director of the CMS Survey and Certification group issued a memorandum clarifying CMS’ stance on the texting of orders.  Specifically, the memorandum notes that a prohibition on texting applies to patient orders, which should be entered into the medical record by a handwritten note or Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) which is immediately downloaded into the patient’s electronic health record, but never through a text message. What are MIPS Scores and Why Should Physicians Care?

The Merit-Based Incentive Program (MIPS) is as program established as a result of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).  A proposed rule addressing the MIPS program was released on April 25, 2016 and is scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on May 9, 2016. Proposed Legislation Would Remove the “Pass-Fail” Approach to Meaningful Use Attestation
